We\u2019ll briefly review three types of verbals here.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\" Infinitive \u2013 A verbal that usually consists of to followed by the verb base; this verb form does not specify either tense or subject \"><strong>Infinitives<\/strong><\/abbr> usually consist of to followed by the verb base. Infinitives can act as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Noun: <strong>To run<\/strong> is the greatest freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Adjective : The freedom <strong>to run<\/strong> made her feel relaxed.<\/p>\n<p>Adverb : He lived <strong>to run<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\" Gerund \u2013 A verbal that consists of the verb base followed by \u2013ing \"><strong>Gerunds<\/strong><\/abbr> consist of the verb base followed by \u2013ing. Gerunds function as nouns.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong> Running<\/strong> brought her great joy.<\/p>\n<p>He enjoyed <strong>running<\/strong> even when he was alone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A participle, when used as a verbal, functions as an adjective.
